I’m a widow and (sort of) survivor of Alzheimer’s Disease. I didn’t have it, my dear husband, Tom, had it – and he got it young.
This disease doesn’t care how old you are, where you came from, or what party you align with, and there’s no way to stop it.
He didn’t have a chance to survive it.
I did, but as his sole caregiver, my chances weren’t great.
Our plans, dreams, finances, business, friendships, and lastly, hope didn’t survive it either.
During the relentless decline and inevitable death, even the words to describe, or to console the loss were gone.
To acknowledge and connect to the millions of caregivers coping with the ambiguous loss that comes with Alzheimer’s Disease, I made these empathy cards.
Let a caregiver know that you’re trying to understand how life feels when it’s been turned upside down and inside out, as they care for a loved one who is there, and is not there.
Consider sending them more than a few cards, over time. The loss never goes away, let them know that you’re not either.
This is the message and cards I give every State Representative and Legislator I meet. Making a connection that might make a difference and change a vote on Alzheimer’s policies and budgets that are currently under the threat of cuts.

We’re losing time. We’re losing loved ones.
